XADM: Additional Strings Created for 5.0.0 NDR (287602)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

This article was previously published under Q287602

SYMPTOMS

If an Exchange 2000 user attempts to send e-mail internally or to the Internet, the message may be returned with the following generic non-delivery report (NDR):
From: System Administrator
To: User
Subject: Undeliverable:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

user@domain.com on 6/26/2001 12:00 PM

The e-mail system was unable to deliver the message, but did not report a specific reason. Check the address and try again. If it still fails, contact your system administrator.
<servername.domain.com #5.0.0>

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Exchange 2000 routing engine maps several specific error conditions to the same 5.0.0 NDR error code. This makes it difficult to properly diagnose the root cause of the NDR.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

MORE INFORMATION

This fix adds the following error codes to map to common error conditions that might occur during message transfer and routing.

4.3.2Message was manually deleted from the queue by an Exchange administrator.
5.4.0Authoritative host was not found.
5.4.4No route to message, next hop not found.
