OFF2000: Overview of Office 2000 Service Pack 3
Use the Readiness Update Without Upgrading to Office 2000 SP-3
You can apply the Access 2000 and SQL Server 2000 Readiness Update
to your administrative installation without upgrading to Office 2000 SP-3.
However, you must first apply the SR-1/SR-1a update to your administrative
installation. Depending on whether you already installed SR-1/SR-1a on your
network clients, please follow the steps in the appropriate section of this
article.
For additional information about the difference between the
Office 2000 SR-1 Update and the Office 2000 SR-1a Update, click the article
number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
261933 OFF2000: What Is the SR-1a Update?
IMPORTANT: After installing this update, you must use Mixed Mode
Authentication (Windows Authentication and SQL Server Authentication) to upsize
your database by using a SQL Server logon. Windows Authentication mode is not
supported. If Windows Authentication mode is set when you upsize, your tables
or queries may be skipped.
NOTE: If you install SQL Server with Windows Authentication Mode set,
and later you change the Security Authentication to Mixed Mode Authentication,
the built-in system administrator (SA) logon password may be blank. After
enabling SQL Server security, you should immediately create a password for the
"SA" logon to help prevent unauthorized access to your SQL Server. For additional information, click the following
article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

FIX: If You Change Windows Security to Windows/SQL Security the SA Password is Blank
After SQL Server
Authentication is enabled, you can use the built-in "SA" account or create a
new SQL Server account for upsizing. If you are using a new account, be sure to
set the "Server Role" to "Database Creators". For more information, see SQL
Server Books Online.
If Your Administrative Installation and Network Clients Already Have SR-1a Installed
Update an Administrative Installation with the Access 2000 and SQL Server 2000 Readiness Update
- Browse to following Microsoft Web site:
- Click the download for ACCSQL_A.EXE.
- In the File Download dialog box, click Save this program to disk, and
then click OK.
- Save the file to your desktop.
- In Windows Explorer, double-click the ACCSQL_A.EXE file.
- Click Yes to accept the End User License Agreement.
- Type c:\accsql in the Please
type the location where you want to place the extracted files box, and
then click OK. Click Yes when you are prompted to create the folder.
NOTE: You must run the next command from a computer on which the
Windows Installer is already installed. - Click Start, and then click Run. Type the following command in the Open box
msiexec /a Admin Path\Data1.msi /p c:\accsql\ACWZ_Admin.msp SHORTFILENAMES=1
where Admin Path is the path to your
administrative installation point. - Click Next in the Microsoft Office 2000 Administrative Mode
dialog box.
NOTE: You do not have to type your CD Key or company name in the
Microsoft Office 2000 Administrative Mode dialog
box. - Click I accept the terms in the License
Agreement, and then click Next.
- Click Install Now, and then click OK when the installation is completed.
- At this point, your administrative installation point is
updated with the first of two .msp files. Repeat steps 8 through 11 for the
.msp file Mdt2_admin.msp. When you apply Mdt2_admin.msp, make sure to change the .msp file
name used in the command line in step 8.
Update Network Clients with the Access 2000 and SQL Server 2000 Readiness Update
You must follow these steps at each network client:
- Rename the following files by changing the extension from
.mde to .old:
Acwzlib.mde
Acwzmain.mde
Acwztool.mde
For the English version of Office, these files are located by
default in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\1033 folder. - Click Start, and then click Run. Type the following command in the Open box
msiexec /i Admin Path\Data1.msi REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=vomus UPGRADEWITHRECACHE=TRUE /q
where Admin Path is the path to your
administrative installation point.
The "UPGRADEWITHRECACHE=TRUE"
property is required to correctly update the Microsoft SQL Server support
files. This property causes the End User License Agreement acceptance dialog box to appear. The "/q" switch suppresses the End User License Agreement dialog box, so that administrators and end users are not prompted
by this dialog box. - Click OK when the update is finished.
- Click Yes if you are prompted to restart your computer.
Your network client is now configured with the Access 2000 and
SQL Server 2000 Readiness Update.
If Your Network Clients Do Not Have SR-1/SR-1a Installed
Update the Administrative Installation to SR-1/SR-1a First
If you already updated your administrative installation with the
SR-1/SR-1a Administrative update, skip this section, and follow the steps in
the "Update an Administrative Installation with the Access 2000 and SQL Server
2000 Readiness Update" section earlier in this article.

SR-1/SR-1a. When you run the command line in the "Update Network Clients with
the SR-1/SR-1a and Web Client Security Update" section later in this article,
your client is updated with both the SR-1/SR-1a and Access 2000 and SQL Server
2000 Readiness Update.
After you perform the steps in article Q257983
to update your administrative installation with the SR-1/SR-1a update, continue

name used in the command line in step 8.
Update Network Clients with the SR-1/SR-1a and Web Client Security Update
You must follow these steps at each network client:
- Click Start, and then click Run. Type a command line similar to the following in the Open box where Admin Path is the path to your
administrative installation point.
- Click Yes if you are prompted to restart your computer.
- Click Yes if you are prompted again to restart your computer.
Your network client is now configured with the SR-1/SR-1a
update and the Access 2000 and SQL Server 2000 Readiness Update.
NOTE: If you already updated your administrative installation with
both SR-1/SR-1a and the Access 2000 and SQL Server 2000 Readiness Update, you
can run Setup from the administrative installation on a network client that
does not currently have Office installed. When Setup is finished, the network
client is configured with SR-1/SR-1a and the Access 2000 and SQL Server 2000
Readiness Update. You do not have to perform any repair or reinstall procedures
on this network client.
