This article was previously published under Q287400 For a Microsoft Word 2000 version of this article, see 287396.
SYMPTOMS
When you select an item (object or text) with formatting that you want to apply to several other items, you cannot paste the formatting to more than one item at a time. You must select the item with the formatting again and then click the Format Painter to apply the formatting to a new item.
RESOLUTION
The Format Painter copies the formatting from an item and applies it to a different item that you select. To use the Format Painter to copy the formatting to multiple selections, use the following steps:
- Click to select the item that contains the formatting that you want to copy.
- On the standard toolbar, double-click Format Painter, and then click to select each item that you want to apply the formatting to.
NOTE: Click Format Painter on the standard toolbar when you finish, or press ESC to turn off the Format Painter.
