PUB2002: AutoShapes Are Converted to Picture Objects When You Save As Earlier Version (287025)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Publisher 2002
- Microsoft Publisher 2000
- Microsoft Publisher 98
This article was previously published under Q287025 SYMPTOMS
When you save a Microsoft Publisher 2002 publication as a Publisher 98 or Publisher 2000 publication, certain AutoShape objects are converted to metafile picture objects.
CAUSE
Publisher 2002 creates shapes differently than do earlier versions of Microsoft Publisher. In addition, many more drawing objects are available from the Custom Shapes palette than were available in earlier versions of Publisher.
When you save a Publisher 2002 publication that contains AutoShapes in either a Publisher 98 format or a Publisher 2000 format, Publisher attempts to locate similar shapes in the earlier version's Custom Shape library. If Publisher finds the shape, Publisher substitutes that shape. If it finds no suitable substitute, Publisher creates a picture object in the metafile format.
If you save your publication in the earlier version of Publisher and then open it in Publisher 2002, the AutoShape objects return to their original state and are no longer picture files.
