You receive an error message when you click Cancel in the Password dialog box in PowerPoint 2002 or PowerPoint 2003 (285462)

SYMPTOMS

If you attempt to show a PowerPoint presentation from Microsoft Windows Explorer, and you click Cancel on the Password dialog box of the PowerPoint presentation file, you receive the following error message:
PowerPoint can't read drive\folder\filename.ppt

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you right-click a password protected PowerPoint presentation file, and then select Show on the shortcut menu that appears.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, type the correct password in the Password dialog box that appears, and then click OK. Your PowerPoint slide show will appear. Press ESC to quit the slide show.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
