PPT2002: Speech Command Does Not Appear on the Tools Menu in PowerPoint (285450)

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, install speech recognition in Microsoft Word 2002. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Start Word 2002.
2. On the Tools menu, click Speech.
   
   Notice that you receive the following message:

   Microsoft Word can't load Speech Recognition files.
   This feature is not currently installed. Would you like to install it now?

3. Click Yes.
4. Follow the instructions to install and configure speech recognition on the computer.
5. Restart the computer.
6. Start PowerPoint 2002, and then click Tools.

Notice that the Speech command now appears on the Tools menu.

If you do not have Word 2002 installed, you can install speech recognition through Office Setup. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs, click Microsoft Office XP, and then click Add/Remove.
3. Select the Add or Remove Features option, and then click Next.
4. Click the PLUS SIGN (+) next to Office Shared Features, and then click the + next to Alternative User Input.
5. Select the icon next to Speech, and then change the option to Run from My Computer.
6. Click the Update button to install Speech Recognition.
