PPT2002: Unable to Edit Diagram AutoShape Formatting (285275)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft PowerPoint 2002
This article was previously published under Q285275 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to change the AutoShape properties, such as colors or lines, in a diagram, the options in the Format AutoShape dialog box are unavailable (appear dimmed).
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when the Use AutoFormat command is turned on. The Use AutoFormat command maintains the layout of the diagram according to the selected style in the Diagram Style Gallery.
RESOLUTION
If you turn off the Use AutoFormat command, you can freely edit the AutoShapes in the diagram. To do this, follow these steps:
- Right-click a shape in the diagram, and then click to turn off the Use AutoFormat command (so that the check mark is not showing).
- Make any necessary changes to the AutoShape in the diagram.
NOTE: If you turn on the Use AutoFormat command again, or if you select a different style from the Diagram Style Gallery, all changes made to the AutoShape are reset.
