OL2002: The Ampersand (&) Symbol Does Not Display in the Rule Condition When You Create a Rule (284381)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2002

This article was previously published under Q284381

SYMPTOMS

When you create a rule in Outlook 2002 that is based on a message with the ampersand (&) character in it, the Rules Wizard does not list the condition to check without the ampersand (&) character.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

The following is an example:

If you have a message with the subject "R&D," and you right-click the message, and then click Create Rule, in the Rules Wizard under the Which condition(s) do you want to check option, the condition "with RD in the subject" is listed.

However, if you look at the rule description in the second part of the dialog, the ampersand (&) character is added to the rule as expected and performs the desired action when a message comes in that meets the criteria.
