SUMMARY

When you use the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in to enable mail for an Active Directory user, a mailbox entry for this user may not be displayed in the Mailboxes container in the Exchange System Manager.

As an administrator, you can create a mailbox for an Active Directory user by using either of the following methods:
  • Right-click the user object, click Exchange Tasks, and then click Create Mailbox.

    -or-
  • When you create a new Active Directory user, click to select the Create an Exchange mailbox option.
When a Windows 2000 domain user is mailbox-enabled, several attributes are added to the user object that point to the server and the mailbox store where the user mailbox resides.

When you are using the Exchange System Manager, the new mailbox may not be displayed immediately. The user mailbox is created when either of the following events occur:
  • Mail is delivered to the newly mail-enabled user.
  • The user opens their mailbox.
