Unable to Change File Extension When Renaming a File in the Portal (284057)

SYMPTOMS

When you change a file's extension when you rename a file in the dashboard site, it does not change the extension, but rather appends the new extension to end of the existing filename. For example, if you attempt to rename "file.txt" to "file.doc," the file becomes "file.doc.txt."

WORKAROUND

Rename the file using the Web folders interface. If you do not have the SharePoint Portal Server client components installed, you can download the file, rename it in Windows Explorer, and upload it back to the workspace using the dashboard site.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
