SYMPTOMS

If you uninstall Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server after you have updated it with Service Pack 1 (SP1) and then reinstall it without reapplying SP1, conference participants are not able to join data conferences and the following error message will be generated in the Microsoft Windows 2000 Event Viewer Application Log:
An unexpected error occurred in the Microsoft Data Conferencing Management Service. Error code 80004005. Message: Unspecified error; Data:

CAUSE

This problem occurs because conferences that you create with Exchange Conferencing Server SP1 uses a different format than the earlier version.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, reinstall SP1.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Because the formats are different, avoid running multiple servers in a site with mixed versions. If you have to recover Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server in its original form, you need to remove Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server, log on to the Conference Calendar Mailbox under the Administrative account, remove all the meetings that you created while SP1 was in place, and then reinstall Exchange Conferencing Server without SP1.
