OL2002: Outlook Crashes During Shutdown After Update of Internet Free/Busy Information (280856)

SYMPTOMS

When you configure Outlook to publish free and busy information to an Internet or intranet location, and you update the Internet Free/Busy information over a RAS connection, Outlook may stop responding (crash) and you may receive the following error message:
Unhandled exception in outlook.exe (OUTLLIB.DLL): 0xC0000005: Access Violation
Although this error occurs, your free and busy information is updated.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you start Outlook offline and establish a RAS connection, and you then synchronize data, end the connection, and quit Outlook, clicking Yes to the prompt you receive about connection.

WORKAROUND

As a possible workaround for this behavior, try first connecting to your mail server and then clicking Free/Busy Information under the Send/Receive command on the Tools menu.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
