SYMPTOMS
When you try to use the Add Printer Wizard to add a printer, Explorer.exe may cause an access violation error message.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if the "Installation Sources" value in the following registry key is improperly set to a REG_SZ data type:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup
Value: Installation Sources
Data type: REG_MULTI_SZ
RESOLUTIONWARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may
require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve
problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own
risk.
To resolve this issue, delete the "Installation Sources" value that is listed in the "Cause" section of this article, and then enter it properly as a REG_MULTI_SZ data type.
