SMS Setup Flashes on Taskbar During BackOffice Server 2000 Setup (279907)

SYMPTOMS

During the Systems Management Server (SMS) portion of a BackOffice Server 2000 installation, SMS Setup flashes on the taskbar. Although SMS Setup is flashing, users cannot access it or change any installation options. When SMS Setup finishes, the SMS program group opens and hides BackOffice Setup.

CAUSE

BackOffice Server 2000 prevents user interaction by design. BackOffice Server 2000 installs SMS in Unattended mode. Although the installation screens are visible during the installation, user input is not allowed during this portion of Setup.

RESOLUTION

After the SMS program group opens, close it, and continue BackOfffice Server 2000 Setup.

NOTE: Do not attempt to modify any settings in the SMS utilities that appear during the unattended installation. Doing so may result in unpredictable results or a nonfunctional installation.
