ACC2000: Access Disables All Windows After You Cancel the Insert ActiveX Dialog Box (279465)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Access 2000

This article was previously published under Q279465
Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

This article applies to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb) and to a Microsoft Access project (.adp).

SYMPTOMS

In Design view of a data access page, when you click Cancel in the Insert ActiveX Control dialog box, Microsoft Access stops responding.

CAUSE

This problem is caused by a combination of steps within Access. It typically occurs when you first choose to print a report, export a report, or output a report. When you do so, the Printing dialog box (with the single button labeled Cancel) appears. After the print, export, or output is completed, you choose to create a new data access page or open an existing data access page in Design view. In Design view, you open the Insert ActiveX Control dialog box, but instead of inserting a control, you click Cancel. At this point, Access quits responding (hangs).

RESOLUTION

Use Task Manager to quit Access.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
