- None of the Search from the Address bar options on the Advanced tab of Internet Options are selected.
- When you select an option for the Search from the Address bar options on the Advanced tab of Internet Options, the option does not remain selected after you perform another search from the Address box unless you select the Do not search from the Address bar option.
NOTE: The Display results, and go to the most likely site option is the default setting in Internet Explorer 5, 5.01, and 5.5.
CAUSE
This issue occurs because on October 25, 2000, Microsoft changed the Internet Explorer 5 AutoSearch feature to improve the user experience by using the full window instead of the smaller search pane. The new default behavior is equivalent to the Just display the results in the main window option. Because of this change, the Search from the Address bar settings on the Advanced tab of Internet Options no longer work properly.
