Error Message: Shell32.dll File Is Linked to Missing Export Shlwapi.dll (278596)

SYMPTOMS

When you install Wind River System, Inc. WinPoET (version 2.0, build 20000427) software on a Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition-based computer, you may receive the following error message:
Shell32.dll file is Linked to Missing Export Shlwapi.dll:SHRegisterValidateTemplate

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because Windows Millennium Edition (Me) conflicts with the Shlwapi.dll file that resides in the C:\Program Files\Verizo~1\Winpoet folder which was installed by the Wind River System, Inc. WinPoET software package.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, you must perform the following steps to rename the Shlwapi.dll file so that Windows Me cannot detect its presence:
  1. Insert the Windows Me startup disk into drive A.
  2. Click Start, click Shutdown, and then click Restart.
  3. When the Windows Me Boot menu is displayed, click Option 4, Minimal Boot.
  4. At the command prompt, type: c:.
  5. Press ENTER.
  6. At the command prompt, type: cd progra~1\verizo~1\winpoet.
  7. Press ENTER.
  8. At the command prompt, type: ren shlwapi.dll shlwapi.bak.
  9. Press ENTER.
  10. Remove the startup disk, and then press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart the computer.
