Start Menu Displays Black Bar Instead of Operating System Name (278527)

When you click Start, "Windows Me Millennium Edition" may be missing. Instead, a black bar may be displayed on the left side of the Start menu.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if the Start menu is too short to display the entire name of the operating system. This can occur after you remove links from the Start menu. After the Start menu is too short to display the entire name of the operating system, a black bar is displayed instead.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, add items to the Start menu to make the operating system name appear. For information about how to add a shortcut to the Start menu, click Start, click Help, click Index, type start menu, double-click the "Adding, removing, & renaming items on the Start menu" topic, and then click the "Adding a shortcut" topic.
