OL2002: Custom MAPI Forms Do Not Work on Terminal Server (278110)

SYMPTOMS

When you use Outlook to send a custom MAPI form that was created in Visual Basic to someone who is using Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Terminal Server Edition, the Terminal Server user cannot open the custom form.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Terminal Server user does not have write permission to the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID registry key.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.


To resolve this behavior, grant users write permissions to the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID registry key:
  1. Log on as administrator to the computer that is running Terminal Server.
  2. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
  3. Locate the CLSID value under the following key in the registry:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT

  4. On the Security menu, click Permissions.
  5. In the Registry Key Permissions dialog box, click to select the Replace Permission on Existing Subkeys check box, and then click Add.
  6. In the Name box, click Everyone, click Add, and then click OK.

    NOTE: If you do not want to give all users this access, you can add specific users or groups of users in the Names box, rather than clicking Everyone.
  7. In the Type of Access list, click Special Access, and then click to select the Query Value check box, the Set Value check box, and the Create Subkey check box.
  8. Click OK, and then quit Registry Editor.
