This article was previously published under Q277576 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Excel, when you attempt to e-mail a worksheet, you may receive an error message similar to the following
A sheet in the workbook you are trying to save is password protected. Password protected sheets cannot be saved in a Web page. To save this file as a Web page, you must first remove the password.
even though you were not attempting to save the document before sending it as an e-mail message. Additionally, the worksheet is not successfully e-mailed.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur when you attempt to e-mail an Excel worksheet that is password-protected. The message appears for two reasons:
- You cannot e-mail password-protected worksheets.
- Even though you are not trying to save the spreadsheet, the spreadsheet must be temporarily saved as a a Web page before it can be e-mailed.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, remove the password protection from the worksheet before you attempt to send it as an e-mail message, or send the entire workbook as an attachment.
To remove password protection, follow these steps:
- On the Tools menu, point to Protection, and then click Unprotect Sheet.
- In the Unprotect Sheet dialog box, type the password, and then click OK.
