PRJ2000: JPN: Quits Unexpectedly When You Open .MPP File That Has Customized Field Name (276592)

SYMPTOMS

When you open a Microsoft Project Planning (.mpp) file, you receive an error message similar to the following:
The instruction at '0xXXXXXXXX" referenced memory at "0xXXXXXXXX". The memory could not be "written".

CAUSE

The .mpp file has a customized field name.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do not customize the default field names.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
