SUMMARY

This article describes how to obtain and install the Data Access components of Microsoft Office 2001.

MORE INFORMATION

The Data Access Components of Microsoft Office 2001 for Mac are located in the Value Pack folder on the Office:Mac 2001 CD. However, additional files and Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) drivers are only available in the Value Pack folder on the Office 98 CD. To install the Value Pack, you must first have the appropriate version of Office installed on your computer.

To install the Data Access Components, follow these steps:
  1. Install Microsoft Office 98 on your hard disk, if it is not already installed.
  2. Run the Value Pack Installer in the Office 98 Value Pack folder, on the Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition CD. Click to select the Data Access check box, to install the Data Access Components. You may leave all other check boxes cleared.
  3. Install Microsoft Office 2001 on your hard disk, if it is not already installed.
  4. Run the Value Pack Installer in the Value Pack folder on the Microsoft Office:Mac 2001 CD. Click to select the Microsoft Query check box to install Microsoft Query for Office 2001. You may install other Value Pack items if you want.
  5. Move the Sample Files folder, which contains the Sample Databases folder, from the Office 98 folder to the Office 2001 folder.
NOTE: You may install Office 98 and Office 2001 and their Value Packs in any order.

Microsoft recommends that you remove earlier versions of Office after you install Office 2001. Do not use the Remove Office 98 utility to remove Office 98 because it removes items from the System that you need to run Query, such as the ODBC drivers. Instead, drag the Microsoft Office 98 folder to the Trash, and empty the Trash.
