WD2002: Some Security Options Are Unavailable When You Save an HTML File as Word File (276144)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Word 2002, when you attempt to save an HTML file as a Word document, you cannot set the following security options:
  • File encryption options
  • File sharing options
  • Read-only recommended
  • Store random number to improve merge accuracy
  • Advanced file encryption options

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if the Disable features not supported by these browsers option is selected. To locate this option, click Tools in the Save As dialog box, and then click Web Options.

RESOLUTION

To set the security options when you save an HTML file as a Word document, clear the Disable features not supported by these browsers check box before you set security options. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the File menu, click Save As.
  2. In the Files of type list, click Word Document (*.doc).
  3. In the Save As dialog box, click Tools and then click Web Options.
  4. Click the Browsers tab.
  5. Click to clear the Disable features not supported by these browsers check box, and then click OK.
  6. In the Save As dialog box, click Tools and then click Security Options.
  7. Set any options that you want, and then click OK.
  8. If you chose to use a password, you will be prompted to enter your password again. Type the password again, and then click OK.
  9. Click Save.
