WD2002: Embedded Fonts Are Not Displayed As Expected in RTF (275953)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2002

This article was previously published under Q275953

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Word, documents saved as Rich Text Format (RTF) files may not display embedded fonts as expected.

NOTE: The Font box on the Formatting toolbar displays the embedded font style even when the font has been substituted.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the document is saved as an RTF file. Word does not mark the font's styles (bold, italic, and so forth) as being used. As a result, the font does not get embedded, and the nearest font style is substituted.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, save the document as a Word Document (*.doc) or Web Page (*.htm,*.html) file.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
