SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to view text by using a Unicode font that was created by using the Microsoft OpenType technology (such as an Arabic font) and the font contains rich tables, your computer may stop responding (hang) and you may need to restart your computer.

CAUSE

This problem can occur because Windows cannot allocate the proper amount of memory for OpenType fonts that contain rich tables.

RESOLUTION

The following files are available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:

Windows 98 or Windows 98 Second Edition - Arabic (Localized):

Windows 98 or Windows 98 Second Edition - Arabic (Enabled): Windows Millennium Edition - Arabic (Localized): Windows Millennium Edition - Arabic (Enabled):

These updates contain both the Lama.dll and Lama32.dll files.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
