The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
This article was previously published under Q275652 SYMPTOMS
You may receive the following error message when attempting to extract a file to the root folder on a drive by using System Configuration Utility (Msconfig.exe):
The destination folder X:\ does not exist. Do you want to create it?
X represents the drive letter of the drive to which you are attempting to extract the file.
NOTE: If you attempt to extract a file to "X:" without using the backslash, the file may be extracted to your desktop. If you attempt to extract a file to "X" (without the colon or backslash), a folder named "X" may be created on your desktop with the file that you are extracting placed in that folder.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, click Yes. The file should be successfully extracted to the root folder of the specified drive.
To avoid this message in the future, create a folder to which you can extract files, and point the Save File in location to this folder when extracting a file with System Configuration Utility.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows Millennium Edition.
