Backup Files for DNS Are Not Updated (275485)

SYMPTOMS

After you create a primary zone, the .dns file with the zone data is located in the %SystemRoot%\System32\Dns folder. DNS also makes a backup copy of the zone file in the %SystemRoot%\System32\Dns\backup folder. After the zone is initially created, changes are not made to the .dns file in the %SystemRoot%\System32\Dns\backup folder.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem if you need a backup of the zones files, stop the DNS services, and then backup the .dns file that is located in the %SystemRoot%\System32\Dns folder.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
