SYMPTOMS

When you connect a universal serial bus (USB) Microsoft IntelliMouse pointing device to a Macintosh computer, the pointing device may not be detected by the computer.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the USB HID Driver extension is turned off.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, turn on the USB HID Driver extension. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click the Apple Menu.
  2. Point to Control Panels, and then click Extensions Manager.
  3. Under Extensions, click to select the check box that is next to USB HID Driver.
  4. Click Restart.

MORE INFORMATION

The USB HID Driver is the extension that enables all USB devices that are attached to the Macintosh computer to be detected by the computer.

The USB HID Driver is required for the MAC OS 8.5.1 through 9.0.4.

The USB HID Driver is installed as an upgrade by GameSprockets version 1.7.5.

The USB HID Driver does not have to be active to run the IntelliPoint software on MAC OS 9.1 or a later version.
