WD2001: Error Message When You Save an Older Version of a Document (275416)

When you use the Versions feature in Word and you try to save an older version of a document, the file is not saved, and the following error message appears:
The disk is full or too many files are open. (document name)
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use either of the following methods.
Method 1: Copy and Save the Version in a New Word Document
To copy the version to a new Word document, follow these steps:
- In Word, click Versions on the File menu.
- Select the version that you want to save, and then click Open.
- On the Edit menu, click Select All.
- On the Edit menu, click Copy.
- Create a new document.
- On the Edit menu, click Paste.
- On the File menu, click Save.
- Name the document, and then click Save.
Method 2: Save the Version as a Web Page or as a Rich Text Format Document
To save the version as a Web page or as a Rich Text Format document, follow these steps:
- In Word, click Versions on the File menu.
- Select the version that you want to save, and then click Open.
- On the File menu, click Save As.
- In the Format box, choose a format such as Web Page or Rich Text Format.
- Name the document, and then click Save.
