WD2001: Pagination Different Between AppleWorks and Word in Documents with Footer (275395)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2001 for Macintosh

This article was previously published under Q275395

SYMPTOMS

When you open an AppleWorks word processing document in Microsoft Word 2001 for Mac, pagination may change. Lines that were on the bottom of one page may move to the next page.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when the Word 2001 for Mac file converter converts from AppleWorks 5 format to Word 2001, and the document has a footer, and the bottom margin is 0.5 inches or less. AppleWorks sets the footer at 0.5 inches from the bottom of the document. Word requires some space between the footer and the last line of text, so text that would be too close to the footer is moved to the next page.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
