WD2001: Error Message: This Document Contains Nested Tables That Are Too Complex to Represent (275363)

SYMPTOMS

When you open a Microsoft Word 2000 document with Microsoft Word 2001 for Mac, or if you create a table that contains 18 or more nested tables, you may receive an error message similar to the following
This document contains nested tables that are too complex to represent.
and then Word may quit unexpectedly.

NOTE: You may also receive this error message when you insert a nested table into another table.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when the number of layers of nested tables (tables inserted inside of tables) exceeds 18.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, open the document in Word 2000 and reduce the number of nested tables to 18 or less.

TIP: You can create the illusion of nested tables by using the Split Cells command on the Table menu.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Word 2001 for Mac.
