WD2001: Word Disconnects the Data Source When a Field Name Is Changed (275359)

When you change the name of a field in the data source of a merge document and that field is used in sorting or filtering the data, you receive the following error message:
This merge document contains outdated sorting information. Word is removing it.
Word disconnects the merge document from the data source.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, follow these steps:
- Delete the merge fields from the main merge document.
- In the Data Merge Manager, click Get Data, and then click Open Data Source. Navigate to the data source file that you want, select it, and then click Open.
- Drag the fields from the Merge Field section of the Data Merge Manager and position them in the main merge document.
- Set any Query Options and proceed with the merge operation.
