Preserving Meta-Information During Uninstall Does Not Preserve Subweb with Unique Permissions (275318)

When you do the following:
- Remove FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions from a Web site with subwebs that are set to use unique permissions for this Web.
- Select the check box to preserve Web meta-information for a later upgrade or reinstallation of the FrontPage Server Extensions.
- Reinstall (configure) FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions on the Web.
The following events occur:
- The unique permissions Web setting is lost.
- The unique permissions and the subweb now have the permissions settings of Use same permissions as the parent Web.
NOTE: This problem occurs with the following configurations:
- Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 or Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system
- FrontPage Server Extensions (all versions, including 4022 SR1.1)
- Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) version 4.0 and later
- Root Web with subwebs set to use unique permissions for this Web through FrontPage 2000
WORKAROUND
Before you uninstall the extensions, follow these steps:
- Configure the FrontPage Server Extensions to allow permissions to be set manually. To do this, follow these steps:
- In the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) for IIS, right-click the computer name, and then click Properties.
- Click the Server Extensions tab.
- Select the Manage Permissions Manually check box.
- Click OK.
- Uninstall the FrontPage Server Extensions from the Web site, and then select to preserve the metadata.
- When you reinstall the FrontPage Server Extensions, the permissions will not be modified.
- After the installation is completed, clear the Manage Permissions Manually check box.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
