XADM: DLs Replicated from Exchange Server 5.5 to Exchange 2000 Not Being Updated (275194)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
This article was previously published under Q275194 SYMPTOMS
If you use the Exchange 2000 Server Active Directory Connector (ADC) with a one-way Connection Agreement from Exchange Server 5.5 to Exchange 2000, some Exchange Server 5.5 distribution lists (DLs) are updated in Active Directory, but other DLs may not be updated.
The other DLs and newly created DLs are updated as expected.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if the object is orphaned in Active Directory and is not being updated properly.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, remove the problem DLs and the replication attributes of those DLs, and then allow replication to finish correctly:
- On the ADC, set replication to Never.WARNING: If you use the raw mode of the Exchange Server Administrator program (admin /r) incorrectly, serious problems may occur that may require you to reinstall Microsoft Windows NT Server, Microsoft Exchange Server, or both. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems that result from using raw mode incorrectly can be solved. Use raw mode at your own risk.
- In Exchange Server 5.5, start the Microsoft Exchange Server Administrator program in raw mode by typing the following at a command prompt:
Locate the DL in question, and then delete the ADC-GLOBAL-NAMES attribute.
- In Exchange 2000, use the Ldp tool to remove the MSEXCHADCGLOBALNAMES attribute.
- Open the Active Directory Users and Computers Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in, and then delete the problem DL.
- Set the ADC to replicate.
MORE INFORMATION
When you use the Ldp tool to check the attributes of the DLs that are not being updated, the DL is displayed in Active Directory as though the DL belongs in a different Exchange Server 5.5 site than the site in which the DL actually exists.
