FIX: Simultaneous Calls to CoCreateInstance Are Blocked in Windows 2000 (275168)

SYMPTOMS

When a COM server object is registered as single use and is also using the single threaded apartment model, attempts by a client to create a new instance may get delayed.

CAUSE

Windows 2000 sends a create instance request to a previously created instance of the server, even though it was created as single use. If the server is busy (out of its message loop) it could cause a delay.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
