OL2000: The Attachment Name Is Lost When You Send Messages With a X400 Connection (275162)

SYMPTOMS

When you drag files to a message as an attachment, the attachment name may be lost when the message is received.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you connect to the receiving computer with an x400 connection. When you use a drag and drop feature to attach files, the PR_ATTACH_FILENAME property is not set by Outlook 98 and Outlook 2000. This property is required to maintain the attachment name during the conversion from the Microsoft Exchange format to the x400 format.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Product Name service pack that contains this hotfix.
