ACC2002: Selecting Visual FoxPro Database in Configure Connection Dialog Box Defaults to Free Table Directory (275065)

SYMPTOMS

When you import or create a link to a Microsoft Visual FoxPro database in an existing Access database, the default database type selected for Visual FoxPro databases in the Configure Connection dialog box is Free Table directory instead of Visual FoxPro database (.DBC).

RESOLUTION

Manually select Visual FoxPro database (.DBC) in the Configure Connection dialog box.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Create a new Access database.
  2. On the File menu, point to Get External Data, and then click Import.
  3. In the Files of Type list, click ODBC Databases.
  4. In the Select Data Source dialog box, click the Machine Data Source tab.
  5. Double-click Visual FoxPro Database. After you click Visual FoxPro Database, note that the default selection for Database Type is Free Table Directory instead of Visual FoxPro database (.DBC).
