Office 2000 SR1 Installation Does Not Work If SharePoint Portal Server Client Is on the Computer (275044)

If the SharePoint Portal Server client is installed on your computer and you try to install Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1 (SR1), you may receive the following error message:
Internal error 2318
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, install Office 2000 SR1 before you install the SharePoint Portal Server client.

Note that if Office 2000 SR1 is installed before you install the SharePoint Portal Server client, you can still encounter this problem if a component of Office (with SR1) is configured to be installed on demand. If the component install-on-demand process is triggered, the same error message may be displayed. This is known to be true for Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, and may be true for other components that can be installed on demand.
