This article was previously published under Q275043

SYMPTOMS

When you copy a file to drive M (or a shared folder on drive M) and try to gain access to it with the SharePoint Portal Server client, the file is not visible.

CAUSE

Because you copied the file using drive M, the SharePoint Portal Server Document Management service did not get called to add the necessary properties to make the file visible.

WORKAROUND

Do not copy files to drive M to use with SharePoint Portal Server.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Drive M is created automatically when you install the SharePoint Portal Server Web Storage System. However, it is not recommended that you use drive M to access or manage SharePoint Portal Server data; doing so may cause your system to stop functioning correctly.
