SYMPTOMS

When you use ActiveSync 3.1 over a universal serial bus (USB) connection to synchronize a Compaq iPAQ H3600 series PocketPC device with a desktop computer that is running Microsoft Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, or Windows Millennium Edition (Me), you may not be able to synchronize the device. You may receive the following error message:
Your device was not detected.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Remove the iPAQ device from its cradle and turn off the power.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Add/Remove Programs, click ActiveSync 3.1, and then click Change/Remove to remove the program.
  4. Double-click the System icon, click System Properties, and then click the Device Manager tab.
  5. If an unknown device is reported in Device Manager, click Unknown Device, and then click Remove.
  6. Ensure that the iPAQ device is not in its cradle, and then restart the computer.

  8. Turn on the iPAQ device, and then use the stylus to press the recessed Soft Reset button on the lower-right side of the device.

NOTE: You do not need to perform a Hard Reset by using the switch inside the sliding door on the lower-left side of the device.
  9. Insert the iPAQ device into its cradle. ActiveSync synchronization should now automatically occur.
When the iPAQ device is properly detected by Windows, it is listed in the Windows CE USB Devices folder in Device Manager as "Compaq Aero USB Sync." The device is only listed in Device Manager when it is turned on and detected by Windows.
