MSN Money Software Installation Error

Your current browser settings prevent Web sites from writing information to your computer's hard disk. These bits of information are saved in files known as "cookies". In order to use all the features on MSN Money, please change your browser settings to allow cookies.
The portfolio does not open.

TIP: Click the link that says, How do I change my browser settings to allow cookies? below the error message. This will open the MSN Money Help topic for this subject.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if one of the following conditions is true:
  • The security level of your Internet browser is set too high, so that nothing can be written to your computer over the Internet.
  • Your Passport cookie is corrupted.
  • You are using a third-party program that restricts cookies and prohibits downloading to your computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve these issues, use the appropriate method. If you are using a third-party security program, use Method 3. If you are not using a third-party security program, try Method 1, and then Method 2.

Method 1: Security Is Set Too High

Note This resolution assumes that you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 as your default browser. For information about how to download or upgrade Internet Explorer, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  3. In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Privacy tab.
  4. Lower the setting to Medium, and then try to access the site again.

Note If these steps resolve the problem, you can reset the generic Privacy level to a higher level and use the ability on the Privacy tab to 'override cookie handling for individual Web sites', by clicking the Edit button and adding the following Web sites as sites that "Allow" cookies:

Method 2: Password Cookie Is Corrupt

Note Use this method if the Privacy level slider under Internet Options is not set to Medium or Lower when you try Method 1.
  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  3. Click Delete Cookies.

Note Because cookies may store customized information for specific web-sites, deleting all cookies may result in your having to reset these custom settings at Web sites that you visit. Therefore you can alternatively delete only specific cookies by clicking Settings, View Files, and then find and delete the specific cookies that you desire.

Method 3: Third-Party Security Program

Turn off any third-party security programs when you want to use your MSN Money Investing portfolio.
