Manager, you receive the following error message: MSN
Money Software Installation Error
Your current browser settings
prevent Web sites from writing information to your computer's hard disk. These
bits of information are saved in files known as "cookies". In order to use all
the features on MSN Money, please change your browser settings to allow
cookies. The portfolio does not open. TIP: Click the link that says, How do I change my browser
settings to allow cookies? below the error message. This will open the
MSN Money Help topic for this subject. CAUSE This issue may occur if one of the following conditions is
true:
- The security level of your Internet browser is set too
high, so that nothing can be written to your computer over the
Internet.
- Your Passport cookie is corrupted.
- You are using a third-party program that restricts cookies
and prohibits downloading to your computer.
RESOLUTION To resolve these issues, use the appropriate method. If you
are using a third-party security program, use Method 3. If you are not using a
third-party security program, try Method 1, and then Method 2. Method 1: Security Is Set Too HighNote This resolution assumes that you are using Microsoft Internet
Explorer 6 as your default browser. For information about how to download or
upgrade Internet Explorer, visit the following Microsoft Web site: - Start Internet Explorer.
- On the Tools menu, click Internet
Options.
- In the Internet Options dialog box, click
the Privacy tab.
- Lower the setting to Medium, and then try to access the
site again.
Note If these steps resolve the problem, you can reset the generic
Privacy level to a higher level and use the ability on the
Privacy tab to 'override cookie handling for individual Web
sites', by clicking the Edit button and adding the following
Web sites as sites that "Allow" cookies:
Method 2: Password Cookie Is CorruptNote Use this method if the Privacy level slider
under Internet Options is not set to Medium or Lower when you try Method 1.
- Start Internet Explorer.
- On the Tools menu, click Internet
Options.
- Click Delete Cookies.
Note Because cookies may store customized information for specific
web-sites, deleting all cookies may result in your having to reset these custom
settings at Web sites that you visit. Therefore you can alternatively delete
only specific cookies by clicking Settings, View
Files, and then find and delete the specific cookies that you
desire.
Method 3: Third-Party Security Program Turn off any third-party security programs when you want to use
your MSN Money Investing portfolio. REFERENCES For more information about setting security levels in
Internet Explorer 6, on the Internet Explorer Help menu, click
Contents and Index. On the Index tab, in the
keyword box, type privacy. In the list of topics, click
change settings, and then click change privacy
settings.
