MORE INFORMATION

In a few cases, the patch will not resolve the issue. If the printer is an HP model, you may resolve this issue by using the HP corporate printer driver.

The error messages listed in the "Symptoms" section occur when PIP asks the printer driver to see if a task is within the limits of the driver, and the printer driver sends back an answer that is not mathematically possible. The patch you downloaded, Updatehp.exe, is designed to make the portion of PIP that asks these questions a little less demanding so it does not push the driver beyond its capabilities.

Typically, nonstandard printer drivers have this issue. You cannot install nonstandard printer drivers by using Windows Printer Wizard. Instead, you must use the Add/Remove Programs utility. This is the case, for example, with the HP 930 driver. However, HP has released a more standard driver for this printer, sometimes called a "corporate driver", which you can download and install. It works only if you connect the printer with a parallel cable. Before you download the corporate driver, you must remove the existing driver. To download and install the corporate driver, follow these steps:
  1. Remove the current printer driver:
    1. Unplug the data cable between the printer and the computer.
    2. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.
    3. Click to select your current printer driver from the list, and then click Remove.
    4. Follow the on-screen steps to remove your current printer driver.
    5. Restart your computer.
  2. Obtain the new printer driver:
    1. Visit the following HP Web site:
    2. Click Support & Drivers.
    3. Click Download drivers and Software.
    4. Type your printer model in the box.
    5. Click the arrow next to the box to search for your model.
    6. Click the link for your printer model in the product list.
    7. Click the link for your version of Windows.
    8. Click the Your printer model software/driver: corporate users for parallel cable link.
    9. Follow the instructions that appear on the page to download and install the driver.
