WMI/WDM Provider Hangs with Large Data Blocks (273773)

The "Winmgmt" process stops responding (hangs) when a data block that is larger than 514 bytes is sent to a Windows Driver Model (WDM) device driver by using the WMI/WDM provider (Wmiprov.dll).

Using the Hotfix InstallerNOTE: You can use this method only for Intel-based computers with Windows 2000 installed.
- Copy the hotfix file (Q273773.exe) to a local folder on your computer or to a share on your network.
- Run the Q273773.exe file and follow the directions.
- Restart your computer.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
