FIX: Enterprise Manager Returns Unexpected Error on Table or View (273472)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the SQL Enterprise Manager (SEM) Return All Rows option to open a table, or you attempt to create or design a view, the following error may occur:
An unexpected error happened during this operation.
[Query] - Query Designer encountered a query error : unspecified error

CAUSE

This problem is due to an internal counter that maintains a certain state. The error is observed if the computer on which SEM is installed has not been restarted for approximately 25 days. If the system remains up continuously, the problem disappears after about 50 days, reappears after 75 days, and so on.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, connect from a SEM client on a different computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server 7.0. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 3 for Microsoft SQL Server 7.0. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
