WD2001: Incomplete Screen Is Redrawn When You Adjust Volume or Brightness on a PowerBook (272817)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the VOLUME or BRIGHTNESS keys on a Macintosh PowerBook, an incomplete screen redraw may occur, thereby leaving a blank space on the screen where the Volume or Brightness system message was displayed.

WORKAROUND

To force a complete screen redraw, use one of the following methods.

Method 1

Use the mouse pointer to drag the scroll box up or down one page or until the box has disappeared from screen.

Method 2

  1. Open a Word document.
  2. Press the BRIGHTNESS increase and decrease keys located in the top row of the PowerBook keyboard.
  3. Wait for the system message to disappear.
  4. Click the Collapse Box, and then click the Expand Box to force a complete screen redraw.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
