This article was previously published under Q272730

SYMPTOMS

When you type the name of an AutoText entry, Microsoft Word may not display a ScreenTip for the AutoText name.

CAUSE

Word displays a ScreenTip when the AutoText entry name is unique for the first nine characters that you type. Word does not check an AutoText name that exceeds 10 or more characters, and does not display a ScreenTip.

WORKAROUND

To allow a ScreenTip to be displayed for your AutoText entry, name your AutoText entries so that they have unique names within the first nine characters.
