XCCC: H.323 Bridging Between Separate Multicast Islands (272641)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

This article was previously published under Q272641

SYMPTOMS

Clients attempting to join an H.323 fallback-enabled conference that is hosted on another conferencing server that is installed into a separate Microsoft Windows 2000 site, cannot see or hear other conference participants.

CAUSE

The connection between the client, the client's local Multipoint Control Unit (MCU)/bridge, and the hosting server does not have multicast connectivity capabilities. This is because the infrastructure does not pass multicast traffic between subnets.

RESOLUTION

Enable multicast capabilities between the two conferencing sites.
