FIX: False Warning When You Use Visual Data Tools with Visual Studio 6.0 SP4 (272326)

    • Microsoft Access 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1)
    • Microsoft Access 97

SYMPTOMS

If you have Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 4 (SP4) installed, when you use Visual Data Tools with an Access 97 or 2000 database, you may receive the following warning:
This version of the database design tools is not compatible with SQL Server 2000 database, so you cannot save changes from this tool to the SQL Server 2000 database. To modify a SQL Server 2000 database, use the SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Manager.

RESOLUTION

Click OK to dismiss the dialog box, and you can continue to edit the database objects.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This bug was corrected in Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 5.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. In Visual InterDev, create a new Web project or a new data project.
  2. Add a new data connection to an Access database.
  3. On the View menu, click Other Windows, and then click Data View. Click to expand your data connection until you see the tables. Double-click a table to view the contents, and you receive the warning.
