XADM: "0xc0070005 Access Denied" Error Message When You Run Exchange 2000 Forestprep Setup (271445)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
This article was previously published under Q271445 SYMPTOMS
When you run Forestprep Setup in Exchange 2000 Server, you may receive the following error message:
Setup encountered an error while attempting to validate the Exchange server server name: 0XC0070005 (5): Access is denied.
You may receive this error message even if the user account that is used to run Exchange 2000 Forestprep Setup has been granted Enterprise Admin and Schema Admin rights in Active Directory, and the account is then added to the Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 Site and Configuration containers with Admin-level permissions. Under these circumstances, the user assigned these rights should have the proper permissions to successfully run Exchange 2000 Forestprep Setup.
CAUSE
The Exchange 5.5 System Attendant service runs on a schedule (every five minutes) to synchronize the permissions in the directory and the security in the registry. This behavior may occur if a user runs Exchange 2000 Forestprep Setup too soon after the Exchange 5.5 Site and Configuration container permissions have been updated.
This behavior may also occur if you run Exchange 2000 Forestprep Setup in a root domain and join an existing Exchange 5.5 site in a child domain. The root domain account must be assigned the permissions role of Admin in the child domain's Exchange 5.5 Site and Configuration containers to allow Exchange 2000 Forestprep Setup to complete successfully.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, wait five minutes, and then restart Exchange 2000 Forestprep Setup.
