Windows 2000 QoS Packet Scheduler Sends Packets with Wrong Checksum on Network Adapters That Enable Hardware Checksum (270923)

SYMPTOMS

If the network adapter that is in use has hardware checksums enabled, the Windows 2000 Quality of Service (QoS) packet scheduler might send the wrong checksum in the packet. The QoS packet scheduler can become slow when IP packets use a QoS flow and filter by using traffic-control functions.

CAUSE

This problem occurs only when Windows 2000 uses a network adapter that has the RxChecksumOffload and TxChecksumOffload properties enabled.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The English version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:

   File name
   ----------
   Psched.sys

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, disable the network adapter that has the RxChecksumOffload and TxChecksumOffload properties enabled.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
